Yahaira is leading our immigration and labor policy and solidarity work at Young Farmers—a new focus for the organization. She grew up in a small immigrant agricultural community in Southwest Florida and graduated from the University of Florida with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Anthropology. She comes from a migrant farmworker background and is proud to serve her community through immigration and labor justice. She often thinks of this quote from Brazilian activist Chico Mendes that states, “Environmentalism without class struggle is just gardening.” She strives to always center labor rights in the work that she does.
