A new coalition for young and beginning farmers is springing up in the Southeast, with a kick-off meeting set for March 5th in Athens, GA. The new organization, the Southeastern Young and Beginning Farmers Alliance, will be a resource to connect farmers from across the region and engage in dialogue about what the farming community needs.
With existing state or regional young farmers’ coalitions–including Washington, Michigan, and Connecticut coalitions–as models, the new group hopes to create ways to share resources, educate peer-to-peer, and develop the voice of young and beginning farmers in the Southeast. Similar groups have started springing up around the country, including New York’s Hudson Valley Young Farmers’ Coalition, and more inaugural events are in the planning stages in several other states.
The event is scheduled from 5-7 PM on Monday, March 5th, at the Farm 255 in Athens. Young farmers from across the Southeast – come meet up and organize! To RSVP and to find out more information, contact Olivia@farm255.com.
