I am a 38 year old young, Indigenous person from the largest reservation in California, known as Hoopa. My love for fishing and farming began at a young age, stripping fish with my grandparents in the smokehouse next to our family’s organic garden. Living in poverty afforded us the ability to cultivate the land in a sustainable, organic way, just as our ancestors have done since time immemorial. Waste from our fishing or hunting went into the garden as fertilizer, and crop rotation and traditional burning kept the soil fresh. This funding will be utilized to build capacity for sustainable and regenerative aquaculture and aquatically farmed vegetables.
