Prior to leading communications and outreach at Young Farmers, Jessica was a FoodCorps Service Member in Kalispell, Montana, sourcing director for a local food distribution service in Central Virginia, natural resources consultant with the Climate and Environment Division of the UN FAO in Rome, and she has reported on food and farming issues for local magazines and newspapers for over a decade. She has worked on farms and in school gardens in New York, Virginia, California, Montana, and Massachusetts. Jessica holds an M.Sc. from the Agriculture, Food, and Environment program at the Tufts Friedman School and a B.A. from Hamilton College. She supports the Coalition’s mission from Charlottesville, Virginia and Washington, D.C. When not working, Jessica is most often trail running with her dog, Peaches, reading, gardening, or spending time with her husband, Tom, and daughter, Lucille Byrd.
