Daniel is co-owner of Nicoya Farm, a small-scale fresh market vegetable and fruit farm, which he started on rented land in West Palm Beach, FL in 2015. The son of Nicaraguan immigrants, Daniel has worked towards creating a vibrant local food movement in the culturally diverse communities of Florida that he calls home. Through Nicoya Farm, Daniel strives to carry on the struggle to address big-picture problems with human-scale solutions. Daniel and his wife Aviva recently purchased farm land in Gainesville, FL, and are in the process of setting up their farm on this land. The money from the Young Farmers grant will be put toward the building of a barn that will house the new farm’s base of operations.
