Moonrise is a plant nursery and agroecology project committed to reconnecting communities with the Earth through land stewardship. Based in the Bay Area, Moonrise envisions a thriving network of home and community gardens, farms, and educational spaces where food sovereignty, herbal medicine, and ancestral healing can be cultivated. The project is led by Abby Runte and Cole Rainey, two fledgling farmers with 10 years of growing experience between them and pockets full of herbs and seeds. Through Moonrise, they work alongside local justice-oriented nonprofits, small businesses and community members to provide educational workshops, access to affordable plant starts, and small-scale, low-cost ecological landscape design and installs. This grant funding will help expand Moonrise’s crew, and allow them to launch new nursery projects like a subscription-based plant start service.
