Not COVID-19 specific. The Edna Lewis Foundation exists to honor and extend the legacy of Edna Lewis by creating opportunities for African Americans in the fields of cooking, agriculture, food studies and storytelling. The guiding spirit of The Foundation is its namesake, Chef Edna Lewis, an early champion of Southern cookery who helped educate and mentor generations of chefs and food enthusiasts, while celebrating the African American culinary community and culture.
Applications are now open season for the 2020-2021 scholarship class of Edna Lewis Scholars. One scholarship grant of up to $5,000 will be awarded to a qualified applicant in each of three scholarship fields: Agriculture and Farming, Culinary Arts, and Food Writing. Edna Lewis Foundation Scholarships follow a grant model, in which the recipient is given wide latitude in the use of scholarship funds to achieve a goal to advance their career in their chosen food-related career.
A 1000-1500 word essay is part of the application.
