Farm Hack IOWA:

 

June 20th – 21st, 2012 at Echollective Farm & CSA in Iowa City + Mechanicsville, Iowa

Farm Hack:IOWA will focus on on-farm energy for small farms. Out-of-the box farm hacks. Electric tractors, farmer-built machinery, WVO/biodiesel, micro-wind, micro-hydro, and wood gas/producer gas fuels.

1 pm: Arrival and Introductions
What are we here for?  Who are we?  What is the misson of Farm Hack and this event? 

1:30-2:30 pm: Discussion of open source/reverse engineering for farm technology.  How can engineer/designer to farmer partnerships make this happen?  How do we do it?

MINI  BREAK

2:45 -3:45: First session of Design Charrette: break down based on project ideas

CARAVAN TO ECHOLLECTIVE FARM & CSA in Mechanicsville

4:30 – 6 pm: Farm tour

presentation and demo/discussion of electric tractor, Grant Schultz

6-8: On-farm simple feast and informal discussion

8 pm: Social at Echollective Farm: bonfire, New Belgium brew, good times had by all.

After bonfire: Camping on farm, townies go home

 

Day 2 – Thurs June 21  IOWA CITY, University of Iowa Memorial Union, Minnesota Room on 3rd Floor  map

8:30 am RECONVENE IN IOWA CITY + coffee and breakfast

9- 10:  Francis Thicke, on-farm solar and tracking presentation and discussion

10-11: Steve Fugate, I-Renew on ag biodiesel

MOVE TO MILLER ROOM

11:15– 12:30: Working groups reconvene, design/plan/other output finalized  

12:30-1: lunch @ University of Iowa Student Garden

1-2 pm: Working groups present, wrap up discussion, strategic planning   MILLER ROOM , UI Memorial Union

2 pm: Fond farewells!
