This past legislative session NYFC worked with State Senator Kerry Donovan to create the first-ever Colorado Young & Beginning Farmers Interim Study Committee. The committee was tasked with studying how state and local policies can better assist aspiring farmers and ranchers in the early stages of their career, while also helping to protect working landscapes, enhancing climate resiliency, meeting growing demands for local food, promoting innovation, and sustaining rural communities and economies. The committee first met on August 10 and proposed six bills for drafting, the final versions of which will be voted on at the October 6 hearing. These hearings are open to the public. Farmers, ranchers, and concerned consumers are encouraged to attend.
