POLICY ANALYST

The National Young Farmers Coalition seeks a full-time Policy Analyst to direct the coalition’s federal and state policy agendas, as well as coordinate relevant national campaigns.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine NYFC’s national policy agenda, focused on government regulations, subsidized loans, government grants, technical assistance, and tax incentives to help new and organic farmers succeed
  • Work in coalition on relevant policy with sustainable agriculture groups nationwide
  • Communicate NYFC’s policy work to a young farmer audience through NYFC’s blog, reports and at conferences and farmer gatherings
  • Coordinate action on policy agenda with NYFC’s chapter groups and members, including email actions, rallies and in-person meetings
  • Educate elected officials on the needs of the next generation of growers and opportunities to help

COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

The National Young Farmers Coalition seeks a part-time Communications Coordinator to lead NYFC’s press work, blog and email communications.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Elevate NYFC’s national visibility through the development and execution of a communications strategy, including regular press releases, story pitches and responses to press inquiries
  • Write regular blog posts on NYFC’s work and relevant issues at youngfarmers.org
  • Post for NYFC on social media outlets
  • Edit all email communications
  • Assist in drafting bi-annual fundraising appeals and campaigns
  • Archive NYFC’s press clippings and media
  • In 2014, work with media firm on national media pitches on land access

SPRING INTERNSHIP WITH THE NATIONAL YOUNG FARMERS COALITION

We are currently seeking an intern to help build our national coalition. The intern will work approximately 10 hours per week in our Hudson, NY office. Interns will have the benefit of learning critical research, grassroots organizing and advocacy skills from experienced staff.

Responsibilities include:

  • Administrative support
  • Outreach to members
  • Event planning
  • Blog Writing
  • Coordination of campaign events to engage farmers/ consumers and pressure targets
  • Representing NYFC and recruiting new members at community meetings, festivals, and other events
  • Researching emerging issues to move campaigns forward
  • Holding regular office hours and participating in weekly meetings with staff

Requirements:

Strong interest in food and farming issues and commitment to social change. Strong verbal and written communication and time management skills. Desire to develop organizing skills. Cheerful and enthusiastic attitude!

Compensation:

NYFC does not provide stipends for internships, but will work closely with students to see that the internship meets credit requirements.

GENERAL BLOGGING INTERNSHIP

NYFC seeks excellent writers with experience in farming and/or agricultural policy to provide blog content at youngfarmers.org. Blog topics include: young farmers profiles, agricultural policy on the local, state and federal levels, farm hacks (see farmhack.net), general interest stories for young, beginning and sustainable growers (weather, state organizing, conferences, etc.)

Must commit to a minimum of 2 stories/month. 

Desired Skills:
Organized, excellent writer, committed to the goals of the Young Farmers’ Coalition.
